Enamel Jewelry
Enamel

Enamel provides a burst of color for jewelry, adding rich color and dimension to fine metals. Enamel is actually glass; applied as a powder or liquid and then fired in a kiln to harden back to its solid, smooth state. Enamel has been used for over 2000 years to adorn jewelry, bowls and flatware, cups, knife handles, beads – anything that is metal was perfect for enamel’s brilliant touch. Enamel is found generally in 3 styles – cloisonné, champleve and limoge. The cloisonné style uses very fine metal wire to create shape and pattern outlines to then fill in with color. Champleve is a style there are large flat areas of metal forming shapes and patterns, with touches of color in between. Limoge enamel is when one can see enamel has been applied to the entire surface of the metal - think of enamel as the paint and the metal as the canvas.
